HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 29

Requesting the Department of Highways to name Bridge Number 02- 45-4.24 on West Virginia Route No. 45 West, at Glengary in Berkeley County, the Roy P. "Tut" Parsons Memorial Bridge.

Whereas, Roy P. "Tut" Parsons was born on August 10, 1915, the son of James Tuston Parsons and Annie Mary Lentz-Parsons; he married Evelyn Louise Dunham and was the father of one son, Roy Richard Parsons; and
Whereas, Roy P. "Tut" Parsons was a lifelong resident of Berkeley County and during his lifetime engaged in many and various endeavors, including, but not limited to, serving as Postmaster at Dehaven, Virginia, and Glengary, West Virginia; owned and operated two grocery stores at Shanghai and Glengary; owned and operated two farms and a Grade A dairy for thirty-two years; owned and operated a sawmill and cut and hauled timber in Virginia, Pennsylvania and West Virginia; ran an ice route through western West Virginia and Virginia; ran a milk route from Jones Springs to Bunker Hill; leased and owned two fruit orchards and hauled fruit and vegetables to Washington, D. C.; was assistant supervisor of the Department of Highways in Berkeley County under Governors Moore and Rockefeller; and
Whereas, Roy P. "Tut" Parsons also contributed actively to various civic and church organizations, having been a member, Sunday school superintendent and trustee of Mount Carmel Church, a member of the J.O.U.A.N. #15, the Farm Bureau and Ridenour Fellowship, member of the Back Creek Valley Elementary School PTA, Musselman High School Band Boosters, having been instrumental in fund-raising for the band in the early 1950's, was a member of the United Commercial Travelers, and was instrumental in the establishment of the Back Creek Valley Fire Department; and
Whereas, Roy P. "Tut" Parsons departed this life on the 14th day of July, 19985, having made significant contributions to the business and civic development of Berkeley County during his long and productive lifetime which deserves public acknowledgment; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the aforementioned bridge in Berkeley County be named the Roy P. "Tut" Parsons Memorial Bridge, and that appropriate signs so designating this bridge be erected; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Division of Highways and his widow, Evelyn Louise Parsons.
